The LTTE will never be defeated through military means, it is not a state actor, it is a guerrilla organization which depends on the support of the local population to survive. The SLA can capture all of the LTTE bases but within a few months the LTTE would definitely go on the offensive once again with the support of the local tamil population which would be once again forced into the tiger's camp due to the treatment they would receive from the victorious SL armned forces. If you want to actually defeat the LTTE, the government should offer tamils a credible solution or the government can opt for a military solution and expect to fight the LTTE for another 30 years.

#7
Yes they are doing a great job of killing civilians in buses while getting wiped out in the vani. Maybe finally some of the fools in Canada and UK, Aust can back up their hollow words and bags of money and send their own kids or themselves to the vanni and get first hand account of how the child conscript's (i.e cannon fodder ) and their helpless families feel.

Maybe you can even run for leader of the tigers, because there will be opening very soon !

-Recently the hit on X-ray base ensured over 600 have perished.-

I would really like the source that give out a number like this. People just think they can can just come in here and put a misinformed campaign are only fooling themselves.

LTTE have done a much better job then what the earlier or current Tamil political leaders can do. If there was no LTTE there wouldn’t be any Tamil left or a history of existence of Tamils on that island.

It’s a sad fact that a brutal armed organisation had to what ever they had to do bearing the name callings from the International Community to keep a ethnic group alive and demand for their justice; it’s the reality wheather you like it or not.

Very well written. The area and surroundings is indeed heavily mined. The Sri Lankan Army also wanted to ensure injured LTTE cadres weren't escaping for treatment. They had word that Piriparaharan was trying to flee.. Killinochi is in dire straits, The LTTE is falling apart, The Tigers are forcing barely trained women and children to man their front lines whilst hiding their elite cadres in camps. The Sri Lankan Airforce is bombing those under ground bunkers the cadres are hiding with 1000KG bunker buster bombs. Recently the hit on X-ray base ensured over 600 have perished. Rajapske always said come for talks or we will defeat you militarily, he said he wants to weaken the LTTE arms capability. Too many of Sri Lanka's Elite Long Range Reconnaissance Commandos have infiltrated deep into LTTE territory and they continue to snipe and wipe out top brass LTTE commanders on a daily basis. The de facto LTTE state is now left with old women, infants and senior citizens.. just left with people the LTTE cant use.. for 20 years our Tamil brothers funded their own demise.. The Tigers have done more damage to the Tamils than 1983 ever did.

The writer is mainly concerned at taking preventing measures of the enemy in its territorial waters. That is welcome. It is accepted that the unlawful exercises of the terrorist organizations like the LTTE should be weakened. However, there are some points to ponder in a world where countries are keen to build up friendship and protect human rights and whether in addition to such defence measures or are there any alternatives to counter terrorism.

Instead of focusing from the defence point of view, why not focus from the democratic and economic point of view, so that not only terrorism be defeated and democracy restored in its place, but also enhanced the economic development of both countries. What is vital in this changing world is to bring about harmony and good relationship between the peoples of two countries.

Consider the following points.
Expenses in laying out the sea mines and the operations by the Coast Guard and other Naval operations.
The depth of the sea between Rameswaram and Talai Mannar.
The manner of exploiting the sea between Talai Mannar and Rameswaram and other places close to the Gulf.

It is an accepted fact that no democratic countries would tolerate any terrorist organization given the fact that are instrumental for the creation of a destructive society to which the LTTE is not an exception. The Fishing issues is a matter of concern for both countries that have to be paid more attention as it has been blood of the livelihood of the thousands of fishermen in both countries. As such, the fishermen of both countries would be clueless of the demarcation of laying of sea mines and are liable to be affected. If India can look at some Asian countries such as China and Malaysia, India can consider thinking of a bridge across the sea between Talaimannar and Rameswaram. When China can construct the 22-mile bridge linking Shanghai to the industrial city of Ningabo across Hangzhou Bay, there cannot be any difficulties for India to construct a bridge across the Gulf of Mannar which is generally shallow. If India can give considerable weight to this consideration instead of laying mines and engage in the Sethu Samudra Scheme, I am sure the people of India and Sri Lanka will greatly applause this measure to defeat terrorism. It has many advantages to both countries and can even avoid unpleasantness from its aggrieved people from both sides. At the centre of the bridge both India and Sri Lanka can have surveillance station to observe the movements of the terrorists. The crucial factor in defeating terrorism by way of defence measures should lie on construction and not on destruction. Construction of such bridges can adequately assure a right of innocent passage to neutral States. This is another way of neutralizing the armed conflict at sea. This is only a point of view. I welcome any criticisms.

Only I can laugh.....After serving so many years in the Indian Army he doesn't know how LTTE operates. None of their boats will get affected by these mines.
They nota fool to run a ship betwen India and Sri Lanka, Neither they bring armship through this area.
He still think like Indian sending a warship to attack Pakistan during the war ........I bet you all these mines will harm the Indian or our Navy oneday not the LTTE. There is a danger this will move towards indian territory.

Now the LTTE have a good excuse when they blow up a Indian ship...

SL need a veteran experience commander and advisors now..Forget the party politics and appoint the rigt people ...

Once again, India has surrendered to Sri Lanka.

Once upon a time India was using Tamil Rebels to twist Sri Lanka's arm, but now Sri Lanka is using LTTE as a reason to twist India's arm.
