The statement by Akashi is very clrear to all and sundry. When he made the second statement, what he meant in his diplomatic language was that all aid will be given (provided the GoSL….) People of different interst take potions of the statement suitable to them. That is all. Nothing has changed.

HRW/Amnesty International – can put out these reports for media consumption at will and nothing will change in SL.
HRW also blames the West not taking a solid stand to stop the violence in SL.
One example of this farce is the Japanese Envoy. He one day says that aid will be cut and when inquired by the FM, he says that the media took his comments out of context and that the Japanese Aid to SL will continue.
Japan will have egg on its face very soon for backing the wrong horse.
The “Kamakaze” inventors have forgotten the “hiroshima -Nagasaki” which brought Japan to its knees and begging the US for mercy during WW II.
Mr.Akashi will be well advised that, Japan was with the Hitler Fascists and paid with their dignity as same the GOSL today. Akashi doesn’t care how many Sri Lankan civilians die but Japan/US/EU interests in the rehion is paramount and that they will support the Colombo Power base to the hilt. It’s upto us to stop these west and what not playing games with our lives.!!!!

There is a picture being painted by the GoSL through media that NGOs and UN Agencies are hand in gloves with the LTTE. In fact they are often named as people in the paylist of the LTTE by none other than the medial of the brother of the opposition leader Mr.Ranil Wickremasinghe. In this media one day the Japanese Government is described as the saviour of Sri Lanka and the next day as a traitor when Akashi talks about restrictions of aid. this is all confusing from the common man’s point of view.
Recently the WFP had been accused of transporting high calory biscuits suitable for combat situations ostensibly to the LTTE. Norway was accused of transporting and storing of ‘bullet proof’ jackets to the LTTE. In the face of such serious violence, why is the GOSL not following up and take appropriate action and let the people know about it?
Are these statements meant for public consumption to subdue their cry for better sevices on COL? It looks that way to me.
