Jayalalitha was young, fair in complexion, modern in dressing compared to MGR's other heroines. MGR was said to be particularly attracted to her shoulders and bare arms and in almost all of her movies with MGR, she wore sleeveless blouses and in quite a few without any blouse. It was said that MGR wanted her to use a specific perfume which he liked. As a result, she wielded enormous influence on him to the extent of getting annointed as his successor.

It is nice to hear that 7 South Indians as Chief of Indian Army. What is the big deal.

Tamils are slattered in Sri Lanka and what these guys are doing? Only once Rajiv Gandhi sent the planes over Jaffna to send a strong message to the Sinhala regime. Later Rajiv sent the IPKF and prolonged the stay but no peace for Tamils. Eelam Tamils were never under the Sinhala prior to colonial rulers.

If Tamils in South India are brave and strong, the Sinhalese won't be raping and mordering Tamils in Sri Lanka. Please read the recent Human Rights Watch report on Sri Lanka and you will know what the GOSL is doing. Indian government should be ashamed that they support the Apartheid Sri lankan regime.

The Madras Regiment is the oldest regiment in the Indian army formed in the 1750s. The regiment has been through many campaigns with both the British Indian Army and the Indian Army.In 1748 Major Stringer Lawrence, a veteran of action in Spain, Flanders and the Highlands, was hired by the East India Comp-any to take charge of the defence of Cuddalore. He laid the foundations of what was to become the Indian Army. Training the levies to become a militia, the Madras Levies were formed into "companies" and trained to become a disciplined and fine fighting force. In 1758 Lawrence raised the Madras Regiment, forming the several Companies of Madras Levies into two battalions. 2 Madras was raised in 1776 as 15 Carnatic Infantry at Thanjavur [and underwent many nomenclature changes thereafter]. The regiment has been through many campaigns with both the British Indian Army and the Indian Army. Many well-known British officers have commanded this regiment, Robert Clive is one among them. This regiment has fought the Carnatic wars, which were fought in South India. The elephant crest symbolizes its gallantry in the Battle of Assaye Africa under Arthur Wellesley, later Duke of Wellington.

There after the British annexed the Indian sub-continent, largely with the help of these Madrasi Sepoys. slowly this regiment was lost in that time span. Many later Punjab battalions of Indian and Pakistani Armies, however, still trace their lineage back to the Madras battalions. After many years this regiment was formed into a full strength force during the World War II, and known for discipline and valour till today.

Madras Engineer Group (MEG) or the Madras Sappers are a regiment of the Corps of Engineers of the Indian Army which draw their origin from the erstwhile Madras Presidency army of the British Raj. This regiment has a large base in Bangalore. In World War I they became particularly famous for inventing the mine clearing torpedo that goes by the name of Bangalore torpedo.

The Madras Sappers originated from two companies of Pioneers started in 1780 that were called the 'Madras Pioneers'. This later became the 'Corps of Madras Pioneers' and was renamed the 'Corps of Madras Sappers and Miners' in 1831. In 1911 they were called the 'Queen Victoria's Own Madras Sappers and Miners'.Madras sappers are called for performing highly complicated military bridges and combat explosive operations.

We were the foundation for the Indian Army.No dearth of brave and bold .The suffering of SL Tamils is due to intransigent ,arrogant LTTE.

yes.we are peace loving, cinema crazy art lovers. Why blame us for your recklessness.?

South Indians are not powerful, brave or bold due to cinema manic. MGR supported the Eelam Tamils but Jeyalalitha doesn't. How can South Indians who supported MGR can support Jeyalalitha? Jeyalalitha is corrupt and her followers are the same.

In order to be powerful, young energetic, honest and true leaders must emerge from South India. The land once governed by honest and powerful Kings are ruined by cinema maniac, corrupt and selffish politicians. This is one of the reasons, Eelam Tamils are suffering and Eelam is occupied by Sinhala Apartheid regime forces.

Yes it is true that 'the population belives that the fictional film characters are real'

Here is a real story. Once MGR went to a village for a meeting. An elderly lady came to MGR and told him, holding his hand, Thamby be careful with Nambiar. he is all out to kill you.
MGR smiling said, Amma - do not worry. Nambiar cannot even touch him.

So, how a good person and an actor like Nambiar can enter politics?
