Did you notice something? In this article there is no Sinhala/Tamil hatred spread.

It does not matter whether you are a Tamil or a Sinhalese…..you are a Sri Lankan when it comes to cricket.

Why can’t we get along as Sri Lankans in other businesses too?

I think, instead of separating the country or building war strategies, we need to build more and more cricket grounds.

WI lost its awe long ago and it has been a humbling fall from grace,
To the point that WI’s are now a spent force in cricket on par or below that of Bangladeshi, Look at the way Steve Buknor was unceremoniously dropped from the test series in Australia by the ICC after the Indian complained.
I dare say Sri Lankans wont feel any sympathy due to the appalling way they backed out of playing world cup matches in Lanka, and their long history double standards towards the country and its cricketers.

While the WI players always wanted to play SL ,for some reason the WI administrators thinks otherwise.

Lara blamed the WI board for forfitting the 96WC match at colombo.I remember (most of u wont agree)Aus threw away their match against WI in the pliminary round compensating WI for their united approch with ACB against SL.(A loss to Aus would have been curtains to WI since they lost to Kenya) ACB/Aus almost paid the price when WI almost beat AUS in the semi Final.

On other matters ,Not only WI but SL also still waging its tail for “white” masters.

Agree with your comments 100%. West Indies still think that they have the same team that dominated world cricket during the period of Clive Loyd and Viv Richards. With Lara gone the team is no match for the SriLankans. If you compare player to player from the two teams, SriLankan team has far more superior players than the Windies. On top of this they play way better as a team compared with the windies. My prediction is Sri Lankan will win both Test and One day Series.

Absolutely right. The West Indies(Boards), although producing brilliant cricketers, have always looked up to the “white” teams, particularly England and Australia, and looked down on the others, particularly Sri Lanka. They have never acknowledged our prowess or performance; Moreover, their players who became commentators,have taken this attitude into their commentary. Rarely, if ever, do they have a good word for Sri Lankan players but are quick to pounce on any perceived shortcomings.

The truth is that Sri Lanka is not a crowd pulling side – apart from lankans who sits in front of their tellies to watch the chuckers play? There is far greater motivation for the West Indian board to bring in England, India and Australia who have consistently enjoyed a global television audience. England have been touring the Windies once every 4 years for 80 years now.

Excellent piece by Nirgunan. However, I disagree with his accusation that the West Indians are alone in holding a post colonial complex towards the white nations.

If anything, the Sri Lankans have a colonial complex.
