I look forward to a tomorrow that brings about change, a believable change
by A.J.M. Muzammil
The outcome of the Presidential election on the 26th of January is going to be very significant. Whatever the outcome, there will be huge implications on the people of Sri Lanka. Both main candidates will certainly have differing styles of governing.
The incumbent will most likely continue with his style of appointing family members to strategic positions of power, kissing babies, attending funerals and performing the variety of other PR stunts he is known for; which has absolutely no bearing on the commoner. In addition, the suppression will reach heights not witnessed before and any dissent will be crushed with brute force. Autocracy will be the order of the day.
The challenger is known to be a disciplinarian who transformed the SL army into a professional force, which crushed terrorism, and is as good as or better than any other army in the world. His popularity has risen as the populace believes that there needs to be a change, especially in the public sector, and given his unmatched and unquestionable integrity, he is the man for the future.
Given his track record in the army, the citizens of Sri Lanka are hoping he can be the impetus that changes this country into an efficient and harmonious nation where the rights of all will be safe guarded and racial discrimination, corruption, mismanagement, nepotism, suppressions, and the vile behaviour of ministers and their goons will be a thing of the past. The need of the hour though certainly is change.
Why MR won’t deliver
Proponents of MR argue that it has only been seven months since the war has ended and that is not enough time to make changes. This implies that they also see a need for a change; however, they believe that MR will deliver.
From them, I ask; if seven months isn’t enough, how long does MR need?
He could have had two years and seven months to make changes?
Why did he call for the elections two years in advance?
Is it because he knows that the country would be ruined further in another two years?
Is that why he opted to try and capitalize on any popularity he has left right now?
I agree that it’s hard to see results in seven months but I think that even 7 days is enough to fall in line, and start implementing measures in order to make the changes we all want; and that certainly hasn’t happened.
MR and Co. seek support by trying to sell stories about patriots and traitors. I am sure that a minority will buy it, but the tide has changed and he won’t be able to market it to the majority anymore. The biggest joke is that anyone who opposes him is labeled as a traitor and bitterness and hatred are brewed. We must never forget that bitterness and hatred are unacceptable, even under the guise of patriotism. If he can label General Fonseka, a man who almost died for the sake of the country on multiple occasions, how will you be branded? Let’s not confuse dissent with treachery.
Those of us who oppose MR’s brand of governance are doing so because we love our country and are tired of watching it being debauched. We are not bad citizens turning into crime; we are merely raising our voices as a last resort, after being led into despair over the last four years. As the saying goes, Patriotism is the last refuge of every scoundrel, and it certainly is getting old.
General Fonseka transformed the army into a professional unit which is as good as or better than any other army in the world. He has been hailed by our Sri Lankan leaders (including the President) and international leaders as the best army commander in the world. He has certainly delivered on his promises thus far. Even his opponents will not question his ability and integrity, and there are no indications why he wont deliver on the promises he has made thus far on his campaign.
The War is over now
The general consensus is that the war is over and the economy is what matters now. On that front, MR’s team is certainly not capable of fixing that. Look at the past four years and see what has happened. Read about the people around him. Listen to their interviews and you will be shocked. An accountant who had no prior experience in managing a bank is the head of the Central Bank.
A person who was found guilty by the Supreme Court for being involved in corrupt deals is the Secretary of the Treasury. He had to resign from his post but somehow has been re-appointed. How ethical is this? It is ludicrous in my opinion.
Let me give you some facts. The government has borrowed more money in the last four years than what Sri Lanka has borrowed from 1948- 2005. We have printed more money during that time than any other period before. And at the end, what do we have to show for it? Is it surprising that the cost of living and prices of essentials have soared despite a reduction of prices of commodities on the world market?
Health and Education
The health care sector of Sri Lanka is crippled and many innocent people have become victimized due to the atrocious management by the Government of Sri Lanka. Importation of low quality drugs is the norm and we have had to pay dearly as a result of the corrupt practices at the Health Ministry. It is tiresome and heart breaking to read the numerous stories about the fate of our Health Services department. It was one of the things that we as Sri Lankans were proud of in the past and recognized internationally.
I am confident about General Fonseka’s proposals relating to the health sector. We as Sri Lankans can look forward to a system which will ensure even distribution of quality healthcare and upgraded peripheral hospitals to internationally acclaimed standards once again.
The misery that has fallen upon the Education system over the last four years is despicable. Those in charge of governance are incapable of providing a proper exam question paper. This is an issue that has cropped up on numerous occasions. Can we expect any better in the future by such an inept administration.
The General is committed to enhancing the education system of the nation and preparing our coming generations for success in academics and employment.
Unemployment
Students that graduated four years ago are still unemployed. When they seek redress, what do they get? Police brutality and imprisonment. Is this what is expected of a government. Isn’t it the responsibility to at least lend an ear to those with grievances? Suppression is never an answer, although this government cleary thinks otherwise.
The General’s Mission
His mission is to "usher in a new era of change, where all Sri Lankans, regardless of race, religion, caste or creed, will have equal opportunities to better their lives in an environment of peace, freedom and security."
His propositions include; a government that is financially responsible and fiscally accountable to the people of Sri Lanka. According to the General, "The government will no longer be the problem for Sri Lankans and businesses - Your government will be the solution."
National Security is of paramount importance, and even his most ardent opponent will agree that there is no one in this country who is more capable than him to protect our country’s economic, military, and political needs.
Currently, our country faces serious issues relating to transparency, power without accountability, politicization of the entire public sector and having flawed laws and procedures in place.
Even the most ardent fan of the government will agree with this, and desire a change. The government of Mahinda Rajapakse has failed miserably on this front. In fact, it is this government that has been the biggest offender. The General promises an era with an increase in transparency, a government that is accountable to its people, and most importantly, legal redress will be sought after for those involved in corruption.
Do not lose hope
I believe that Sri Lanka is the best place anyone could ever be in and Sri Lankans, for the most part, are the nicest and friendliest people. Even during the worst times, you will be able to see a smile on their faces. To me, that is hope and I am sure that this country will change sooner rather than later. Some will say that it is just wishful thinking; to me, that hope makes me look forward to tomorrow. We can either act on history and past events or we can act to shape our future. I choose the latter and I hope you do too.
Before you use that precious vote of yours on the 26th of January, ask yourself one question; Why did the incumbent President call for this election 2 years in advance if he is so confident of fulfilling his promises and bringing about the changes you desire?
I look forward to a tomorrow devoid of racial discrimination, corruption, nepotism, mismanagement, intimidation and chauvinism. I look forward to a tomorrow which will bring in a new political, social, economical, ethical and moral era. I look forward to a tomorrow that brings about change, a believable change.

This article has summerised all that is necessary to be told at this critical juncture. Now all what peace loving citizen should do is to VOTE GENERAL SARATH FONSEKA TO POWERT ON 26th January,2010.
There it is people in a Nutshell. Vote in the General get rid of the Rajapakse regime.
God bless you all and give You wisdom on the day, to make the selection that will rid the nation of the Rajapakse Government.
VICTORY FOR FONSEKA IS A VICTORY FOR LTTE
I'm sorry but you seem to want to blame everyone and not take any ownership or responsibility yourself.
The govt borrowed money to buy weapons to use in the war - weapons are not cheap - some of those funds were used to buy excess weapons, BMWs, Rangerovers via shelf companies in the USA - i'm sure you know more about that...
The cost of this oversupply of currency is inflation. Its an economic term and it has measures that other nations use to tackle it effectively. They can apply here too...
Graduates who graduated 4 yrs ago entered a war zone, literally, there was hardly enough economic development to create sufficient jobs while the job at hand was to finish the war - wouldnt you say it required complete focus to end it - a 20plus yr battle? Foreign investment was down and locally businesses struggled to retain their current staff levels. if you can find a country anywhere that can fight a civil war while creating normal (non military) jobs ill give you a lot of credit!
Have you heard of the heartbreaking stories of the healthcare system desperately needing reform in the USA???? Watch Sicko by Michael Moore to get an idea of how terrible it is in a developed 1st world nation. Then think about sri lanka...yes we can improve!
The general's mission is to come into power and clear his name. The real people pulling the strings are the parties backing him. you have to look at the puppet masters - not the puppet.
The sri lankan people survived a brutal civil war! i'm sure we will surive this election and what comes with it....we have thousands of years of history to prove that we can survive!
Now my sincere question to you sir is - What can you do as an individual, other than complain, to help the country and its people move forward?
Mahinda Raja will and general lose - that's the outcome on 26th, either you like it or not because it's not only the internet savy will vote, but also the villages who count to more than 70% of vote base. Jayawewa
What change he is talking about. The cahange can not beleive in All BS.SF is a traitor , who has betrayed the country. He looks lean and hungry. Such men are dangerous. The allegations against MR is baseless. No politician prevent terrorism. It is only MR, who did it.
Show your gratitude and vote for MR.
People like you only patonise SF for one reason. Bring the country into new stage of instability. It is only MR who DOD NOT BEND DOWN before the International power, none of a leader in Sri Lanka was able to function without liking the western boots. How come SF deliver his promises with stupid JVP and impotent Ranil Wikramasinha?
Show a leader corruption-free in the world history. None! MR may be corrupt. Why he put his brothers into the position. He did not want defence Secretary takes flowers and apple to the Tiger leaders in hospital!
That is why WE SHOULD VOTE FOR MR WHO HAS A SPINE TO DEFEND THE DIGNITY OF THE COUNTRY.

So You Have Decided to Vote Sarath Fonseka? Read This To the End, and then Vote!
So you have decided to vote Sarath Fonseka, haven’t you? It’s all right. I understand.. I am not here to sling mud at Sarath Fonseka. I will never ask or beg you to vote Mahinda. You don’t have to. I just want you to read this to the end. I respect Sarath Fonseka, as much as you do. In fact I personally want to vote him, but I can’t. I’ll tell you why. Please read till the end. You have decided to vote Sarath Fonseka for one of these three reasons
1) You are voting Sarath Fonseka simply because your parents keep voting UNP for last 50 years, and you are also inherently a UNP supporter.
2) Or, you are voting Sarath Fonseka because you believe in JVP politics, and your leader Somawansa Amarasinghe wants you to vote Sarath Fonseka this time.
3) If not for these two reasons, you are voting Sarath Fonseka simply because you personally feels that’s the right thing to do. You are not influenced by either the UNP or the JVP
For what ever the reason you are voting Sarath Fonseka, you have already created mental justifications for your decision. It’s the human nature. Once you make a decision, you tend to rationalize your decision. Let me guess some of your rationalizations and ask you few questions back. You have to give answers to your own self, for these questions...
1. Sarath Fonseka was the true leader of our war victory against LTTE. He would have done it even without Mahinda as the president.
Can he? Is SF the sole contributor to the war victory? For sure, Mahinda wasn’t the “sole contributor”. But, Mahinda was the “leader” who managed all aspects of this war; not just a one frontier. The military war in the air (with Roshan Gunathilake), military war in the sea (with Karannagoda) and the military war on land (with Fonseka). How about the political war? Keeping the pressure put by opposition and international community away from the military leaders? Did Sarath Fonseka played any role in these other aspects, than the military war on the ground? Ask from your own common sense. Don’t let your political biasness to fool you.
2. Ok, war victory was just a one thing which Mahinda did right. Did he do anything else for this country? Just take a look at these pictures, and ask from your own common sense whether these were not important to you. Don’t let your political biasness to fool you. Simply question your common sense.
3. Mahinda didn’t do anything for the business sector. Ok, if you believe in this as a reason for voting SF, tell me what you are expecting SF to do good for the business community? What guarantee you have? Remember his economic policy is going to be influenced both by UNP and JVP. Can you expect any “positive sum” in a combination of JVP and UNP economic policies? Isn’t ending the war itself is a good thing done for the business community? Isn’t building the roads a good thing for business?
4. Mahinda taxed the country a lot. Without taxing a country, how can you provide free education, free healthcare, more super highways, more flyovers, ending a 30 year old war? Are you expecting under SF he will remove all these taxes? Then how can he continue to provide us free education, free healthcare, and continue the development projects?
Lord Buddha said, “those who always find faults with others on minor concerns, despite the larger achievements they have made; will always keep on burning inside by their own flames of selfishness”. Stop being selfish. Open your mind. Put away your political jealousy. Think about the truth standing right in front of your eyes. The truth is, Mahinda did a great deal of good to this country which JR, Premadasa or Chandrika failed to do. Do you want to turn this country back by handing it over to a person who doesn’t even know how to speak to another human being? A person who get aggravated so quickly?
Tell me…. Are you ready to vote for a man who is spreading hatred on every stage that he speaks? Are you ready to vote for a person who has already threatening to get revenge the people talking against him? If you are the type of “100% media freedom”; are you ready to vote for a man who threatens the press people to resign from their jobs, even before he get elected as president? Can you expect press freedom from such a man?
I respect SF as a military commander. But I don’t want this country to be ruled by an angry totalitarian dictator, who get aggravated easily with a small provocation. I don’t want to see this country to be ruled by a person who doesn’t know the meaning of the word “patience”, “forgiveness”. I don’t want to see this country be ruled by a person who’s surrounded by people who are willing to kill people, even before their leader gets appointed as president (Just imagine the fate of MR supporters on 27th, if SF gets elected).
I know that you hate Mahinda.. I don’t want you to love him. Keep hating him. But don’t cut your nose simply because you hate your face!
If you still want to vote Sarath Fonseka and see this country get ruined, please go ahead and vote him! But if you have a slightest of common sense left with you, and if you are not looking at the world with political colored glasses; see the danger ahead of us. Don't just vote Sarath Fonseka, because that you hate Mahinda. This is not about hating Mahinda. This about the future of this country. Don't play with it. DON’T VOTE SARATH FONSEKA FOR THE SAKE OF THIS COUNTRY!
Just cancel your vote, if you don't like Mahinda!
If you see the danger I am showing you; please pass this message to all people whom you think that care. Simply copy and paste this to an email and send to your contacts. Republish this on forums. Print this and spread! What ever that you can do to open the eyes of politically blinded people of this country..
DO YOU REALLY LOVE SRI LANKA?? REMEMBER THAT'S
THE ONLY COUNTRY IN THE WORLD FOR US.
ONE SRI LANKA. .
PLEASE FORWARD THE ABOVE TO YOUR FRIENDS & RELATION..
" AUBOVAN"
An unknown Gentleman and soldier against a seasoned Political Heavyweight, Problem is that one of the both gentleman has the Stars shining in his path. He was born in the Chinese Lunar year of the Tiger 1950. This is the golden year of the Tiger, Tigers are Honest and Valiant !!!! Master Mahinda, had his golden years, Year of the Rooster, now its time to eat the Rooster or simply disappear into the jungle as a Walikukula, as for his thugs, time to parade them in the high streets for about 2 weeks with a poster on their heads.
Dear Sir, I didn't believe Sri Lanka have people of your intellect and thinking anymore. This article reminds me of the late great political assets like Lalith Athulathmudali and Gamini. Dear Citizens don't waste your vote instead make your voice heard. Do not forget evil prevails when few good citizens fail to act.
What is the S Fonseka's qualification to run the country, remember whole Sri Lanka is not a Army Camp, being a army comander is not good enough to run a civilised country, Why didn't he come forward and prove to the people that he is not a corrupted Government Servant ( Giving contacts to his Son in Law) , first time in the Srilankan Army History Army Comander involve with corrupted deals with his family member , are you sujjesting to appoint corrupted leader to eliminate corruption? what a joke
I just commented in Mr. Jeyaraj's column that it seemed that I had no choice but to vote for MR.
With this article I get some idea about SF and his goals, Which sound very hopeful and good for the country. However, will he be allowed to do all this? He has aligned himself with politicians, who will start fighting among themselves for positions of power. Also their idea is to use him just to get rid of MR. When he does not do what they want, they will try to get rid of him by hook or by crook. How is SF going to curtail them?
Then what about all the officers of the three armed forces who sided with the present government. What is their fate? There was a talk of court martials.
so all in all do we have a choice?
Quite good and logical saying. However I would like if you could think about my comments neutrally.
I agree with you that yes we need a change which we can believe. I do not want to make more dreams which have been created so many of them so far by previous politicians. We have to be realistic.
Furthermore I agree that Mr. Fonseka is one of the very best army commander in the world but what is the guarantee that he will be a good leader for a country specially a country like Sri Lanka.
I believe you and I both look forward to a bright future for Sri Lanka specially poor innocent people who live in very rural villages, North and East and etc...
There are so many proofs Mahinda has done so many things to uplift the living condition of the villages as well as cities. Please think how many projects he started which would have been started so long ago. As an example Hambanthota Port and other ports, Norichcholai Power plant, Second international airport and there are a lot to be named.
I'm afraid I cannot keep writing which is not practical . Finally I should mention that If Mahinda comes to power it will be best for Sri Lanka and if opposite happens the country will suffer no different to past.
Having not voe in two decades, I still keep an open mind. I know I have one more day to mak up my md. But this kind of articles push me away from making an intelligent decision. The only conclsion I can make by reading the article is, the writer seems is either a new voter who doesn't understand the politics of the country and promises or a man who has been living in the West for two long.
MR may or may ot deliver, but 7 months is not anything o discuss about. Many villages do not have basic infrastructure. They look sadly, exactly like how they were in 1800's. It's a disgrace when you consider the prsidents often send their children to the UK for education but these poor villages have no water, no roads or in an emergency, four people still carry the patient on a bed to the hospital. So the 60 years haven't change anythingfor them, 7 months is nothing. But SF has nothing for them either. In a way, MR is poor friendly, so might deliver at some point. He still has a lot to sort out in the war region.
As for Currupt people, yes it is disgusting PBJ has been re-appointd, also not dealing with hedging issue and Asantha etc, but what promise is there on the other camp? Karu Jayasuriya is one main culprit in the Cope report of Wijedasa Rajapakse. He has not only been taken back to the UNP but appointed the second in command. I can't see the difference. There are many mroe to compare I am afraid.
Health is entirely controlled by doctors today. Instead of improving, the conditions at hospitals are getting worse, but the director of each hopital is a doctor now. Drugs import is a mess but SF has no solution for that apart rom keep changing the company they buy drugs from. Since the inception of channelling services, most doctors have gone corrupt unfortunately.
Exam papers was not a problem of the government, but it has been highlighted better now.
y father often said my English test papers had mistakes when I was a teenager in early 1980's. I had to do my O/L maths paper twice, beause the first one had been leaked out (not by politicians but educationists). Sadly though, the second one had two sums wrong but they gave marks to everybody who touched the sum.
As for Graduates, Ranil W famously said, a government can't provide jobs to all the graduates and police were unleashed many a time to meet the graduate demands in 1980's. This is nothing new and it will continue to happen. THis is nothing to with politics but professors. They should stop teaching silly subjects and give students somehing to take with them. A Graduate with 4 years of history or applied mathematics or Agriculture knowlede will always find it hard to settle without state help. Government on the other hand, can not provide jobs to them either. Ranil's white papers and private medical college's only cost lives (with JVP in the othr end)but did no good. We need a vibrant university system that produces not half baked private university graduates but graduates that are capable of taking up the best in the world. But SF has no idea what I am talking about.
SF was for abolishing executive presidency at the beginning but now he says he will keep all the key ministries. Sorry, what government is he talking about? UNP? no it can't be because he is backed by the JVP too. So the government has to be UNP+JVP. But what a calamity it will be,will never ever work, this will only cause to hold elections in two more years again. Now he keeps saying he will keep key ministries but will the JVP be happy? No, clearly they don't talk about it. because they only want to abolish presidency. What is funny is, they launched an insurrection against a parliamentry democracy (no president) in 1971 too. JVP is utterly untrustworthy, they stand for nothing but destruction. So the SF has a lot to answer before I make up my mind and I am sure, I am not alone and the clock is ticking.
And bring about a bloody military dictatorship to this beautiful island. You people are looking through a tunnel and do not see beyond the tunnel about the future with such an arrogant, foul mouthed inhuman dictator who without batting an eye lid would take heroes like Shavendra Silva, Prasanne Silva, Kamal Gunerathne to the gallows, who would sexually abuse people without any decency, who would throw people out from their jobs for personal revenge, who would cut the ears off from the barber, etc etc etc. These are all true and not MUD.Check from the army he comanded. you have been hypnotized and brain washed by the mangala rumour company. I wish you the life you are eagerly waiting for with the General, and a future like former Uganda ( since Idi Amin also cut the ears of people he disliked and sent to prison or killed the people he disliked. WELL DONE ALL OF YOU !!!!!!
Whosoever comes nothing is going to change in the normal people of Sri Lanka. Further, Nothing is going to change in living standards of middle class and lower class citizen of all communities in Sri Lanka. As per Singhalese saying, whoever comes, Gampolaiya , Raigamaiya? .”serama goru.......”
Since Independence, what are the assistance both the parties granted to the minorities grievances. Ltte is the bitter product due to the gross violation of both UNP & PA parties of Sri Lanka. With whole hearted blessings of these parties, they were able to stage riots, pogroms and genocide in the country in a systematic way to feed their beloved hooligan, by means of looting the properties belongs to minorities.
Even after winning of the war what are growth in the average citizen other than Mahinda’s families and relatives’ prosperity? Earlier Chandrika, Now Rajapaksha next Sarath............?
Have any sensible voter of the country have ever thought about the rocketing of costs not due the war expenses but due to these mafia politicians?
bose
rajpaksa has been selling war victories to capture power for his second term .but since the ed of the war he has beeen doing nothing to the betterment of the country
Lets hope Mahinda Rajapaksa will continue to serve Sri Lanka as President from 27th January 2010. He was President for 4 years, of over 3 years was marred by war. He deserve a chance to serve Sri Lanka in peace time. In last few months, many allegations were made by LTTE,UNP,JVP,Mangala and Hakeem to discredit Mr.Rajapaksa. All of them turn out to be untrue. When false allegations are proved to be untrue, the corrections are never published in the offending media.
Let me give you one example. Opposition and LTTE media ran a news item that said Gotabaya had purchased Apollo hospital. When the shares holder list was published on 10th January 2010 in The Sunday Times, it appeared that he has no shares. He had zilch, zero , nothing. So far these stories have not been corrected. This is a kind of election rigging.
Mr.Fonseka is not fit to be the President of Sri Lanka. His language shows that he is a vengeful man with hatred in heart, his actions show that he is ungreatful and surrounded by men who are guilty of treason. .
Mr.Fonseka has been offering motherhood statements without any concrete plans for the country. His economic plans show that Sri Lanka will head for a period of hyper inflation and his inability to counter Eelamist like Sampanthan and Mano Ganeshan could lead to another period of instability. Those who in the wrong side of politics at end of the Eelam war have now sided with Mr.Fonseka, hoping a weak President will give them a chance to destabilise Sri Lanka.
We have suffered enough, we do not want to experiment with a novice at this critical moment in history. Lets pray that Sri Lankans will vote for Mr.Rajapaksa and deliver him a massive victory on 26th January 2010. It will give a unequivocal message to those who wish destruction of Sri Lanka.
The Sri Lankan Tamils could well decide the outcome the this election. They should vote for a man who can identify with Tamils. Mr.Rajapaksa learned Tamil because he realise that no Sri Lankan leader without understading of Tamil issues will be accepted in the North of the country. On the other hand Mr.Fonseka has publicly stated that Sri Lanka belongs to Sinhalese and he would allow Tamils and Muslims to survive. Tamils and Muslims should realise that "Mouth is the mirror of the heart".
all blessings with dear general to guide mother lanka to the 21st century, and for that task we all are firmly behind you sir.. regardless of our relligion, colour, race or caste...thats the need of the hour for our beloved Lanka, not a bunch of uneducated thugs trying to stir the already boiling pot of thnicity..
Sri Lankans now have the opportunity to make the change required to move the country forward into the 21st century and beyond. A united Sri Lanka sans corruption, nepotism and racism. Let us make this change by voting for General SF.
Since you are campaigning for SF, you are a good boy = Thoththa baba!!! All others will be called Kala Weddo
What kind of change you are expecting from retired general? A kind of military rule? We already experience the "change" under MR. We can now breathe as free nation.
In 2005 MR won the presidential eletion without the support of minority votes. You guys think this time with the support of at least half of minority votes MR gonna lose? You are dreaming....MR is our next President.
Dear Sri Lankans,
IN MY VIEW, THERE SHOULD NEITHER BE QUESTIONS NOR ARGUMENTS ON WHETHER MAHINDA SHOULD BE OUR NEXT PRESIDENT OR NOT. IF WE WERE TRUE SRI LANKANS, WITH UNCONDITIONAL LOVE FOR OUR COUNTRY AND, IF WE WERE TRUE SRI LANKANS WHO GIVES RESPECT TO THOSE WHO DESERVE IT, THERE SHOULD NOT BE ANY OTHER CONTENSTANT FIGHTING AGAINST MAHINDA FOR THE PRESIDENACY IN THIS ELLECTION.
DON’T YOU THINK AT LEAST MAHINDA THE GREAT PERSON WHO ENDED A WAR OF 30-YEARS TO SAVE US FROM THE FEAR OF DEATH DESERVES AT LEAST THAT FROM US?
As a Sri Lankan I am ashamed to see this type of arguments taking place among us on who should be the next president.
These are arguments that shouldn't have taken place among a civilized community. Just for the fact that MR, saved us from the war of terror, fear of our lives, he shouldn't be put in to this place. We Sri Lankans should know better than this, to treat people who do good to our mother nation. I cannot imagine the emotional struggle MR must be going through right now, by seeing his own people betraying him after ending the war. Shame on the Sri Lankan group who put him to this situation.
Dear ponseka,
I read your comment. Are you a Sri Lankan? What is your education qualifications?I think that you have not gone to school.Ponseka what is your job?If you are a government worker you may get 20000 salary to maintain your family. Can you manage today? If not what is your idea at a election moment? Will you think to carry on as same to suffer further to your family? We will talk about candidates later.
If you are unable to buy a motor bike at this economy state what will you do?If you cannot think of purchasing a house or land what will you do?If you are a Buddhist do you know the theory well? With whom this war was?Who named them as Terrorist? Are they Sri lankans? Why did they fight? For what reason?Did the past governments settle there demands? No.Do you know the history of our country? No.I will teach you. When the British took over our country in late 1800,Sinhalese were living in the western and southern provinces. The Tamils and Muslims lived in the north and east of our country. After British started to manage our country they had difficulties in management. They got the members from Sinhalese and Tamils had long discussions to make one main block. After discussions British organized all the areas together and named Ceylon. Most of the Tamil officials worked with British members during their period as Sinhalese were not educated to speak in English. Our people were engaged in trading business. When Mr.Bandaranayake took over his office, Tamil officials were at high percentage to work in his office. As he declared Sinhalese language as the official language the Tamil officers and the rest had problem and it was effected up to date. You may get these information in the web.But our politicians,Monks, are hiding this to the new generation.Today the Tamils are demanding to get their lands back.Is it unreasonable? How can you name them as Terrorist?Ponseka now you tell me with whom this war was conducted by the President? He has killed his own civilians. Why is the international supporting to Tamils?Because they know the history.Learn from me.You may deliver this message among Sinhalese as many as possible.Tactically the present politicians are hiding the truth while using this chance as a weapon to be popular among Sinhalese community. If you say that the present President finished this job and he will never separate our country, please go to EPDP web site, read all the conditions they have offered to the government. You will see stars. My friend it is separation, powers, their members to run their areas etc.Now what will you say?Though the present President say that SF has agreements with TNA,the country will be divided by him, these are real jokes. He has already agreed with dougless Dewananda sine the last 4 years to get him to him.Check now it self.
