Sarath Fonseka is the Sarah Palin of Sri Lanka

Opposition of soup makers and strange bed fellows thought they would win the presidential elections. They dreamt on. Sarath Fonseka who was a good army commander and thereafter went to betray the country thought he would win purely going by the crowds. He did not realize he was Sarah Palin of Sri Lanka and the Sri Lankan people were enjoying his Sarah Palin moments.
Their headquarters were in Colombo at a Right Royal street Rajakeeya Mawatha. Fonseka started thinking like a Royalist and even forgot the two schools he was educated at. In short he forgot his beginnings and roots. He started behaving like a tin pot dictator. He warned threatened people. He said “You just wait and see what I will do to you when I come to power” He did not realize that the masses did not like his cruel words. Fonseka and his cohorts started to believe in his unbelievable change. He got embedded like those CNN journalists during the Iraq war.
Sadly, Sarath betrayed own army men and women, his Defence Secretary. He even tried selling his scars to gain votes. He kept on dreaming the impossible though all along even people in his camp believed that he cannot win. Some said “we know we are going to be defeated but we want to reduce Mahinda’s margin” but, the bigwigs and the pigs in his camp thought they would win. Ranil did not want Sarath to win. Whole of Sri Lanka knew it but, Sarath.
Mangala was at his best. Doing what he was best at. Spreading rumors, creating fear psychosis, insulting and throwing mud as never before, creating doubts and making desperate attempts to divide the country with his gossip and rumor mill.
26th dawned. People voted. 27th dawned. They lost. They could not believe that people had refused to accept their so called believable change because they had realized that it was unbelievable. Some knew they had an exist strategy. That is to bring down the country, ridicule the voters and dilute the victory of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
We have had enough. Sarath, since you cannot do better than this. Please shut up. We have things to do. We have to live our life. Look at our future. Not yours.

Every body knows who won this election. the goverment knows it and mahinda knows it.

An hysterical outburst to cover up a massive fraud perpetrated on the country. Of course thats what the govt would like to see, that people should shut up and allow them to pillage the country. SF betrayed the country by making baseless allegatiions against the very army he commanded.He even went to the extent of betraying his formes boss and the commander in chief.He talks of 40 years discipline at the army.I wonder whether he know what discipline really means.He does not even have the courage or the humbleness to accept his defeat.He has to understand that well attended meetings don't mean much in terms of real votes.He should understand that he is an amateur in politics.Unfortunately his masters are all good at losing.So how do these people know how to win.His greed for power is still not over.People have given him a decisive verdict"Please don't mess up with our lives"

You must be really blind not to see what is happening in Sri Lanka. Wake up & smell the coffee. First of all, see if you can contact Ada Derana and see if you can watch the video of EC's speech prior to annoucinng the results.
Get your facts straight before writing garbage. If Sri Lanka is to prosper, democracy must prevail. As-is right now, it is going down to the dogs. People like you also is a part of it.

If this is not betrayal go and improve your knowledge. Try and use your brain cells to good use. SF has lost and that is the end. Yet the idiot is going round making threats in public, seeking some sort of reaction so that he can scream foul and get USA, Europe and the INGOs involved. Really? who won? Just because Sarath Fonseka goes around with his Sycophants and hold media conferences to say that the election was rigged do you really think that the people would believe it? This is not something new. Take a look at the comments made by loosing campaigns over the last 30 years. Loosing campaigns have been so very delusional that they are unable to cope with the ground situation and so have created fairy-tale scenarios to explain their loss. Were there any incidents? I am sure there were but were they large enough to change the over all result? I bet not. Don't forget that when the election season started there was no question that MR was going to win with a big margin and it seems that the sentiments especially, in the far reaches of Sri Lanka did not change over 3 months and with a much hyped, inexperienced person running the opposition campaign.
Has people got what was promised? I am sure under MR they saw the most important promise come true with the ending of the war. True, the economic promises are yet to come. However, I don't think you are superficial enough to believe that promises of bracelets and cell phones are more important than ending the war and clearing the ground for political stability.

Yes I agree. Sarath shouldn't be labeled a traitor. It is indeed disheartening to see the MR administration calling him a traitor. It's just that he was taken on a fake ride with much hype by the UNP, the JVP, the TNA and the SLFP(M). Unfortunately Sarath didn't have the political acumen to realize that he is being taken on a ride. Also, the witch hunt must end and the government should return to their normal duties.
SF behaviour during election campaign prove that he is non other than street thug or a "chandiya". When a person contesting for Presidentship he must have some qualities. He must ready to accept win or defeat like a gentleman.
In any army in the world never accept defeat. So the people working in army as soldiers, taught to win by hook or by crook. So when an army person contesting a presidential election he never accept defeat. The things happening in SL today prove that.

2. Death squad issue
3. Indira Gandhi issue
4. Asking frontline commanders to find other jobs on the 27th
5. Unholy alliances with the TNA
6. Aligning himself just for the greed of power with the UNP, Mano, MS, Hakeem just to name a feww of which ALL of them tried to stop the war effort and topple the government and pawn off the land again

I feel sorry for SF. He was the second best army officer next to the late great Gen. Kobbekaduwa (Who was killed by the then UNP regime). SF is no politician. He's a petty, narrow minded, power hungry cry baby.

Sarath Fonseka too knew that he would lose. But his agenda was create violence after the election by using foriegn media and making government forces to kill ten twelve innocent people and get international medeation by using the blood of innocent followers. He is not a good leader. He is trying to get the power by using innocent's blood. Rajapakshe is a master planner, he never allowed them to activate their plan. But Fonseka and JVP still trying to do that. That is why they inviting people to come forward and prepare to go to the prisons. How someone go to prison, that means they expect people to do violence in streets. They know definetely many people will get shot from the law enfoncements. But they make a big mistake. External or Western powers do not get involve to do things with people have no capabilities. They do not want to get bad reputation without possitive results. At the begining they thought they could, but now they are stay away from these people because they no they are not in up to their standards.

Do you believe that this election results are true? (1) If they won with a such a big margin, normally people will celebrate, There are no celebrations (2) Normally waht happens World leaders congratulate for the win. Apart from Japan and Norway Not even our religious leaders congratulated Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The election was disreputable. Ruling party enormously violated election rules which include mis using govt assets including govt owned media. closing private media institutions, kidnapping journalists, threatening to Election Officers and stopping their duties, mass scale vote rigging, thuggery , bribery, murdering opposition supporters, and Keeping Opposition leaders in house arrest during counting votes. Election commissioner’s speech after the election confirms them. In other words there should be a question about legitimacy of the election of the President.
Finally This article is trying to support this corrupted regime.
I cannot blame the author for whatever she is worth in terms of conviction and conscience. There are two sides of everything. In my view the great guardians of democracy - the UNP, betrayed Fonseka. Being a matured party in the alliance, they should have done some coaching on what to talk about and how to talk it in a manner palatable to the voters. I found that they were indifferent in this area. Nevertheless, the UPFA would have found something, even a foul breath to castigate SF using the state media that was blatantly violating the norms and rules, a fact to which the EC has sudden amnesia.
Why did the UNP betray him? Did they take it for granted that having done the ground works, their victory was assured after the ballot boxes were sealed? If they did that, their so called political maturity is nothing more than a myth. Did they presume that they have already lost the race and just gave up? If they did that, nothing could have been far from the truth for people knew for certain which way the wind was blowing. Or did they have another agenda? If so what is it?
Because they miserably failed to trail the track of ballot boxes to the last anything could have haplpened. Now they are crying foul and belly-aching of what happened. Do they have a chance in crying over the spilt milk? Their own supporters are now having second thoughts, a chance MR & Co should grab with both hands to win their confidence not by words, but by deeds. That does not seem to be happening and the status quo would continue to prevail.
For whatever it is worth, I must admire the manner in which the JVP stood by their determination upto the end and thereafter despite the reprisals inflicted on them. I have always been a critic of JVP in the past. But I see them now as a force with principles with cleaner hands, notwithstanding their activities at the formative years.
Considering the manner in which democratic priciples are manipulated to commit crimes by the senior parties, I foresee that one day JVP would rule this country. How they would begin to behave once they achieve that remains to be seen.
