Is Ban_Ki-moon influenced by India on Sri Lanka through his son-in-law Siddharth Chatterjee?
by Upul Joseph Fernando
There is a view that the UN Organization General Secretary Ban Ki Moon appointed a panel of experts to investigate the human rights (HR) violations and the war crimes committed during the Sri Lanka (SL) war was in order to get an extension for his term in office as Gen. Secretary. It is evident that when his first term is about to end , he is resorting to various ploys to get it extended.
One such ploy is the panel of experts appointed by him to inquire into Sri Lankan violations. There were widespread and repeated allegations from the Western countries, Foreign NGOs and the International media that Ban Ki Moon took no measures against the Human Rights violations and the war crimes committed in Sri Lanka during the war. Through a prominent member Vijaya Nambiar of the UN Organization , accusations were levelled that Ban Ki Moon was maintaining close and cordial ties with the Sri Lanka President Rajapaksa , and is therefore suppressing the war crime charges against Sri Lanka. There were also allegations that India was using Nambiar towards this end.
When Ban Ki-Moon’s policies pertaining to Sri Lanka came up for questioning by the Foreign media from the UN Ambassador to France, Gerard Aroud , the latter stated , India and China are obstructing Moon from taking drastic measures against Sri Lanka. Now it has become known that Moon’s son in law Siddharth Chatterjee was a former officer of the Indian Army, and during the period of the 1987 Indo Lanka accord , he had served in the Indian peace keeping Force which arrived in Sri Lanka. Presently , Moon’s son in law Chatterjee is holding a post in the UN Organization at D2 level ; charges are current against Moon for giving preferential treatment to his son in law.

Similarly , the International media recently revealed that during the final phase of the Sri Lanka war , a former Chief of the Indian Army , Satish Nambiar, the brother of chief of staff in the UN Organization Vijaya Nambiar , was sent here by Ban Ki- Moon to protect the civilian population . The former chief of the Indian Army proffered advice to Sri Lankan Army regarding the war . The International media however charged that by Vijaya Nambiar acting according to Satish Nambiar’s advice and India’s needs, no efforts were made to save the Tamil Tiger leaders who came forward holding white flags, or the civilian population in the final stages of the war.
In an earlier article of mine I had made mention of how the Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa extended support to appoint Ban Ki-Moon as the UN Organization Gen. Secretary,by making Jayantha Dhanapala , the Sri Lankan candidate for the UN Gen. Secretary post to withdraw, in order to facilitate Ban Ki- Moon’s election to the post of Gen. secretary of the UN Organization .Consequent upon this , Ban Ki-Moon became very closely associated with the President and his brother Basil Rajapaksa.
Ban Ki-Moon’s close ties with the Rajapaksa brothers apart, there is another reason which incapacitates Moon from taking drastic measures against Sri Lanka – the support that was given to him by Mahinda Rajapaksa to secure the post of UN Gen. secretary . It is possible that these are the relationships which compelled Ban Ki Moon to ignore the repeated requests made to him to intervene and take action to halt the war at the last stages.
It is not certain whether Ban Ki Moon’s conduct in the final phase of the war was influenced and induced by the support lavished on him to be appointed as the Gen. Secretary by the Rajapaksa govt. or was it due to the pressure brought to bear on him by India via his son in law. ?
If Moon’s son in law Chatterjee had been in Sri Lanka during the 1987 Indo Lanka accord period as an Indian Peace keeping Force (IPKF) officer, he ought to be well conversant with the Sri Lankan war and the Tamil Tiger Organization. He must have experienced very difficult times when the Tamil Tigers waged war against the IPKF . It is not unlikely that he could have made Moon understand that the Tamil Tigers had no desire for peace , and that they should be annihilated.
On the one hand India must have silenced Moon by using his son in law , while on the other, India must have also used the UN Organization chief of staff Vjaya Nambiar who was appointed by Moon, to take steps to safeguard the Sri Lankan civilian population . Indeed , there are charges that Satish Nambiar, a former Indian Army Chief was used to exert influence on his brother Vijaya Nambiar.
It is exceedingly clear that the combined efforts based on the ‘game plan’ of India orchestrated by the Rajapaksa family, the son in law Chatterjee of UN Organization Gen. Secretary Ban Ki-Moon’ s family and the brother of chief of staff Vijaya Nambiar’s family had worked effectively and efficaciously . But Moon who fell prey to this game plan is now , again confronted by odds and obstacles militating against his appointment as the General secretary for a second term.
This is because western countries are questioning his role in this game plan. Moon may have appointed a panel of experts relating to Human Rights violations in Sri Lanka only to please the Western countries which have now turned sour against him.
No matter what amount of effort Moon may put to please the Western countries to fortify his position and keep his post , India however will not relent or relax in its attempts to use the Rajapaksa , Ban-Ki Moon and the Nambiar families which were contributory to the Tamil Tiger devastation to suppress the war crime charges surfacing against Sri Lanka. ~ courtesy: Daily Mirror ~

You are sore that Lankan armed forces prevailed and ended LTTE terror in Lanka. The better Lankan forces (army, navy, airforce)won against the timid tiger who boasted they will roast Lanka!...now you are after the Moon!
Grow up,you lost so take it like a man, dont look to blame Moon for it.
BANKI MOON CAN GO TO THE MOON.
ARREST every activist who seeks sessionism and arrest them the minute they step into SriLanka. Have the same system as in US. Fingerprint everyone and photograph everyone who comes to the country. Monitor their families in the country as well. ADOPT A VERY HARDLINE APPROACH IF SRIlANKA IS TO REMAIN FREE FROM TERRORISM.
O what a tangled web we weave, When first we practise to deceive.
The intricate and acrobatic meanderings of the perverted logic of this writer and a host of others branding all and sundry as conspirators and traitors in order to whitewash the actions of a few black sheep is rather astounding.
What would be required by the govt is to establish an inetrnal independent commission of inquiry and publish the results as to wether there were a few who did or did not carry out such actions and if these were acceptable or not. Instead we have hair pulling and teeth gnashing which seems to indicate that people have something to hide.
today every one in Colombo or else where in sri lanka moving freely without any bombs threats, what we lost in last 35 years, today all forces who against the president Rajapkse were well aware on this situation, since last may 2009
up to now how many lives saved? materials and other resources? I do think Mr Ban KI moon got the reason to do so,
if he made any barriers to prevent LTTE at that time, today war is still there, this is very simple mechanism,
It is time that incompetent Ban Ki Moon and his Indian agent son-in-law Siddharth Chatterjee and chief of Staff Nambiar are exposed to the whole world to see.
Ban Ki Moon does not deserve a second term as UN chief. He has brought disrepute to UN. When there is a proper investigation by the UN on War Crimes in Srilanka, it should also investigate the role played by UN headed by Ban Ki Moon.
The author limits himself to family relationships in an attempt to depict Ban Ki Moon as a puppet. IF we really assess the racial connections, the historical partisanships and local political survival strategies of the pro-Elamist lobbies in the West the world may well be surprised as to how Sri Lanka managed to decimate LTTE terror and still survives intact. If the pro-LTTE activists had their way there would be perennial bloodshed in the island leading to the average Sinhala and Tamil to be enemies for centuries to come. Fortunately, sanity prevails and we are on an awakened conciliatory path to centuries of unity and prosperity allowing critical dialogue on all issues to be openly made, reconciliation sought and national amity to prevail.
No not India, Brown and the millband group, use India to do the dirty job, mata hari Hilary clinton waiting in the dark. come on India dont do dirty jobbs against your neibours, specialy for thease losers.... You know what happens when you fight with all your neigbours in your village...
today every one in this tiny island are happy, why? they are moving freely without any bombs threats, what they lost in last 35 years, during this 35 years of long conflict , what the west has done? ,most of the western capitals become brilliant money making machines for LLTE,particularly UK,drug trafficking, human trafficking, extortions etc, they turned blind eye to their activities, that mean they laid out the ground work for long term complicit in sri lanka,
at that time the west has done nothing to stop this bloody conflict,
when LTTE's global revenue boomed up to billions of dollars and some times it reached srilanka's GDP' level, what the west did? helped them to fortified their position in global arena while thousands of civilians and armed forces personals,in sri lanka dying LTTE's hands, at that time there is no human rights violations in sri lanka,
how many innocents are dying in Afghanistan every day, 100 parsons are killing every day in Iraq? who's behind this adventures? in 1991 American forced killed more than 100 thousands solders who retreating from Kuwait, any evidence or any voices for these type of massive human rights violations?
when no body help sri lankn's solve this conflict, they found their own solutions,
today all forces who against the president Rajapkse were well aware on this situation, since last may 2009
up to now how many lives saved? materials and other resources? I do think Mr Ban KI moon got to reason to do so,
if he made any barriers to prevent LTTE from their total annihilation, today the war is still there, this is simple mechanism,
The writers confused line of arguments and thoughts attempting to link behaviours of the UN leadership are fo no interest.
Mr Banki Moon and his coterie leading the UN (Vijay Nambiar, Naveena Pillay and Pascoe) are rotten to the core. They have been dishing out jobs to their relatives and friends and have used the UN as their personal property.
Nambiar was directly linked to the white flag affair where LTTE Civil Admin officers were slaughtered by a blood-thirsty army led by a racist army commander.
The world body requires a thorough clean-up, top to bottom. The current leaders have blood on their hands. They are the most rotten set of leaders in the whole of UN's history.
You should expand your Article to cover Indias War Crimes in relation to how it dealt with Sri Lanka
and gave all the support for carrying out the Crimes?
Finally the dirt coming to the surface, the dirty infiltrations have tarnished UN image. It is important to investigate those individuals wheeling and dealing in order to setup a standard for future.
Sonia's Indian government will block any war crime investigation, at the same time Rajapaksa knows very well about Indian's tactic.
Its a pleasure to say Sonia that Sri Lanka already opened the door for Chinese intelligent, now they are monitoring Indian navel strength and their activity.

There will only be unity if the Sinhalese stop their distorted version of how the conflict started. Be honest and admit that it was the Sinhalese who started the cycle of violence. First riot was sinhalese attacking the muslim community in 1915 (still during british rule). The sinhalese went on even more riots after the british left. This was what eventually led to the LTTE creation in the 1970s. The LTTE could justify on their rise to weapons by saying that 20 years of brutality targeted at their community, and they had to retaliate.
And it has become a fashion, since this war ended,, to turn the ethnic problem (which is false as the race classification is false one) into LTTE bashing. Just keep going on and on about LTTE as if they were the one and only problem that existed. Conveniently ignoring the problems that led up to it.
The tamil community suffered from the brutality of the GOSL as much (if not more)than the LTTE.
And what about the JVP and GOSL violence in the 70s and 80s? This killed far more sinhalese than the LTTE ever did. But ofcourse Sinhalese killing sinhalese does not make a nice romantic story does it? Its easier to act like the LTTE is the sole problem in Sri Lanka because you can identify them as a different race.
There are so many Sinhalese like you who think they can throw in their biased views on the situation and that all the tamil public will just accept. What stupidity. Honestly, wake up.
Instead of bringing unity, you only succeed in causing more misunderstanding and distrust.
Mr Upul Joseph
Nice story telling, wild imagination, first class.
Chatterjee rules the world.
Only problem is you are insinuating that Rajapakshes are so important and so capable right centered on genius.
Nobody argue that it was time for VP and the clan to pay up for their deeds (natural justice)
Mr Upul Joseph
You are absolutely right , now every thing hss fallen in to place this the reson Bogollogama got encouragement to ask for a UN job for his son.So to continue to teach corruption to UN. now Srilankan and Indian Corruption had been exported to UN as well. Long live UN.
Mr. Upul Joseph.
When ever I read a article of yours, I cannot stop wondering whether you are a Sri Lankan or not. Why are you so against the fact the Sri Lankan Government saved so many lives of innocent Sri Lankans by defeating the LTTE. When dealing with animals like LTTE, one should not worry about the human rights.( my personal opinion)The aim should be to remove them form this world, so that innocent people can live peacefully.
Wake up Upul. The war against terrorists is not a war between two countries. These terrorists had no value for human life. They kill there own people just to gain some popularity.
And you are supposed to be a media reporter. Pls. ensure that your reporting is nor biased against any body. I have a feeling that you have some personal grudge against President Mahinda Rajapakshe and his family. Please remember that he is respected by millions of Sri Lankans. Just because you are a reporter of a National news paper, you don't have god given right to insult him.
