Police Registering Tamil civilians in Colombo is discriminatory: Mano Ganesan calls for president’s intervention

Recommencement of the police registration for the Tamils in the city of Colombo is pure discriminatory. We are certain that it is only the Tamils who are instructed to register though the Colombo range DIG and Wellawatta OIC strive to portray this process as nation wide process.

This is being conducted only in the city divisions where Tamils live in sizable numbers.

Please intervene to stop this discriminatory act which is flatly against the sprit of reconciliation said Mano Ganesan, leader of Democratic Peoples Front in his urgent letter to the president.

Tamil civilians living in the Wellawatta police division are asked to register themselves at the police station by providing individual details to the police. Police officers made relevant announcements through public address systems in Wellawatta police division area last week.

Tamils faced miseries due to such blanket registration processes during the war. Though there were reservations due to the harsh conditions, we also understood the rationale for such exercise during the war. But it appears now that end of war has not brought end to the miseries of the Tamils.

Police is free to identify any lawbreaker for arrest and investigation. But we cannot accept identifying Tamil citizens for blanket registration anymore. Most of the information required by the police are private and confidential. No self respecting citizen would be prepared share such with the authorities under normal conditions.

Police officers on enquiry tried to describe this process as collection of information of the citizens by the state. We believe that the department of statistics is the right agency to collect such information in a more civilized and professional manner by in a nationwide process.

Please do not involve police which will be counter productive. I as the leader of DPF await your response and immediate intervention.

Is there any connection with this dragonian practice and the UN move to appoint the committee to investigate war crime?

Is it the local Police initiative to intimidate the Tamils and extract sort of ransom, "protection money"?

Is it part of the long term plan to inform the Tamil Speaking People who the masters are and to remind them that their life is at the mercy of the state?

We were told LTTE has been anihilated by the Sri Lankan armed forces yet Wellwate police has re enforced registration. What is happening in Wellawatte?

Is it another ploy to deny basic human rights to the people of Sri Lanka?

Hi- Best thing is to get the names and addresses and other details of the all the nationalities living in the specified areas and sort out according to their Race/Religion other what nots. There is no DISCRIMINATION OR HUMAN RIGHTS involved.

Ravi if you consider yourself as a Tamil and not Sri Lankan please go to Tamil Nadu. Sri Lanka is for Sinhala, Tamil, Muslim and other people who are proud to call themselves Sri Lankan.

What else can they do ?.

Their foundations are crumbling, in frustration the Tamils become the scapegoats all this the work of the pure vegetarian the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Defence who runs the affairs of the island.

He has urned out to be a vicious human, petty minded and always in a rage.

Being an egg eating vegetarian myself, I am always calm but this yokel astounds one and all.

These types of acts only confirm to the world that the Tamils are a whole are an endangered species in Sorry Lanka. a j.

Why not? Other people were discriminated until last May by exploding bombs here and there. This can happen again. So it is better to prevent than cure. I am sure if the dust is settled within 3 - 4 years, this should be stopped. Until then there should be checks. Tamil's intentions are to kill every other Sri Lankan to acieve what they want. All the other Sri Lankan should unite to defeat this agenda. We know how many innocent people were killede in Colombo and other cities because of their bogous agenda. These Tamils cannot live with other peoples. Even in refuge camps in Australia, they fight with Agans.

Tamils will always remain 2nd class citzens in sri lanka.
Only seperate country can change things for tamils.

Mano Ganesan continues to fight for the cause of all Tamils in Sri Lanka,
although out of Parliament for no fault of his. If this registration exercise is only for Tamils in Colombo and the South, those behind the plan are only increasing the chances of the coming of Eelam - though many Tamils are resisting this working towards an alternative viva modum.

Guys, Don't jump to conclusions so easily and accuse all around. Check the facts first. There is a problem. When there was the war lot of Tamils came to reside in Wallawatta, JKotahen areas from North and Easr. Some of the lodgings, houses belongs to expat Tamils. Other people rented them and got money and profits. Now mafia and some other Tamils, Muslims and Sinhalese moving in and illegaly occuping some properties and even registering to their names using nortary and crook lawyers. Most expats loosing their properties to these illegal occcupiers This is a big problem and organised mafia and some lawyers are behind it it seems. Problem now moving to Sinhala areas as well. Soon they have to register Sinhalese who are living in Sl and who are abroad but have properties in SL.

*** If this registration exercise is only for Tamils in Colombo and the South, those behind the plan are only increasing the chances of the coming of Eelam ***

Then you must SECRETLY be happy that this is taking place, right Senguttavan? You should actually be ENCOURAGING this sort of thing against Tamils... because just like PRABHAKARAN and the LTTE - you TAMIL NATIONALISTS need to ENCOURAGE Misery onto your Ethnic group so you can claim OPPRESSION and GENOCIDE and then EELAM will happen (as you claim).
