The former spokesman for the United Nations in Colombo has accused the Sri Lankan government of branding Tamil asylum seekers as terrorists, fearing they might become witnesses in a war crimes tribunal if they are granted asylum in Australia.
The UN has established a panel to investigate whether a war crimes tribunal is appropriate in regards to the last months of Sri Lanka's civil war, which, ended early last year. Since then 1,129 Sri Lankan asylum seekers have arrived in Australia, with about 30 per cent being granted asylum, 7 per cent being refused and sent back and the rest of the cases still pending. The Australian media this week published comments by a Sri Lankan security analyst, who said up to half of all Tamil asylum seekers had links to the Tamil Tigers, and that the Tamil Tigers had links to Al Qaeda. Former UN spokesman Gordon Weiss, says those claims are false and risk inflaming the debate over immigration in Australia.

It is an absolute truth. The Rajapaksa regime strategy is getting exposed gradually.
In Sri Lanka whoever is not with the Govt is labled a terrorist or terrorist supporter. If these people are terrorist why all this fuss and bother preventing them from going abroad? We should be happy to get rid of them.
The truth is we cannot bear to see others do well and want to pull them down with along with us.
We haven't crushed Tamils enough - they shouldn't leave Sri Lanka. We need to crush them more which is happening in the Northeast - journalists and foreigners have to get MOD clearance, only a few selected NGOs with severely restricted areas of help are allowed to work in the Northeast.
The 2010 Action Plan by CHAP was not endorsed and hence people are hungry and thirsty according to reports coming out. A few visitors say ''things are getting better''. The extremely slow space of development is OK for these visitors.
To the average Sinhalese and especially those in the power of the driving wheel all the Tamils are terrorists, when will they ever be able to eradicate these impure thoughts from their minds, they never will.
By their antics, they themselves have passed the guilty verdict on themselves, how cool.

Most of these are economic refugees.
Terror Victims did not have the money to get on a boat because they could not afford the smugglers fees and also the LTTE levy.
Most of the people who claim refugee status make up stories.And the White man believes them.
Why fear ?????? As for GOSL, they have crushed the most ruthless terror group who were assisted by pro-Western Proxies.
This is the basis on which the tamil diasspora is influence the West? To pave the way for the WEST to get their claws on Sri Lanka and for the Tamils to get a slice.
Gordon Weiss & other pro-eelam shameless co-horts can commit any jugglery as long as its committed from outside Sri Lanka. Its OK guys have a good life at the expence of the Diasspora money. Or else, how could you dread of receiving or handling such monies. make hay while sun shine.
There will also dawn a payback time, get ready for that too. That money may not be enough or will not save.

Isn't it also a STRANGE COINCIDENCE that these TAMILS who are FLEEING FOR THEIR LIVES (as they claim) all ended up on Boats to AUSTRALIA and not to much nearer (and Poorer) Non-WHite countries like Indonesia or Thailand? AUSTRALIA is THOUSANDS of MILES away, yet these Crafty Ex-TIGER and MAKKAL PADDAI seem to know how to navigate towards the only WHITE COUNTRY in this region.
