Will G.L. Peiris or Palitha Kohona be made the scapegoats for amateurish politics of Weerawansa?

Now that Wimal Weerawansa in his inimitable way has managed to get the President of Sri Lanka to kneel down before him and offer water as many predicted, one wonders as to who would end up being the scapegoat of the government failure to get a better statement from the UN on Friday night - Prof. G.L. Peiris or Palitha Kohona

A conciliatory statement from New York became very much part of Weerawansa’s exit strategy following the failure of his move to get Russia to make a commitment. Though Russia had earlier made it clear that it was against the UN panel on Sri Lanka it acted prudently during the fast and refused to play to the gallery of the drama that was being enacted. The anticipated court order to remove Wimal from the site too never came.

When Wimal’s team got a copy of the much- prayed- for statement by the UN they found its contents to be a far cry from the party’s demand.

Running short of options the Weerawansa camp finally had to turn to their most bankable alternative, President Mahinda Rajapaksa - a visit by whom had been predicted by media entities from the very beginning of the death fast. The President surely would have been quite alive to the controversy that such a visit would trigger but still opted to drop in having waited for two days.

Knowing the Sri Lankan style of resolving issues one may well say that one would not be surprised if either External Affairs Minister G.L. Peiris or Sri Lanka’s representative in New York Palitha Kohona faces the axe in the days to come. One cannot rule out an influential section of the ruling alliance jumping to the conclusion that a hurried commitment from Russia or a better worded statement from the UN would have saved face. Then comes the need to look for scapegoats.Wimal Weerawansa who referred to President Rajapaksa as his good buddy in his resignation letter is very unlikely to be pulled up despite the humiliation he brought to the twenty million people in the country with his comic act on the global stage. It is now up to the likes of Prof. Peiris and Dr. Kohona to clean the stable after the mess created by Weerawansa. But is there any point?

Sri Lanka has ceased to be a nation that has faith in diplomacy. It only has faith in amateurish retail politics that provides entertainment. There’s hardly a role for the likes of Peiris or Kohona in this government as long as the likes of Wimal Weerawansa calls the shots. So why not send Prof. Peiris and Dr. Kohona home.

Really Wimal Weerawansa calls the shots ? I mean was it a stand alone ( nothing to do with MR regime ) action by Wimal Weerawansa similar to that of Ban Kee Moon's stand alone action ( nothing to do with UN as claimed by the SL patriots or defenders of the MR regime ) ?

So based on the catergorisation of TN political leaders as JOKERS by the MR regime's higher ups just before the end of war , can we say that the SL defenders have recently pushed Ban Kee Moon into that Joker catergory and now doing the same to Weerawansa ?

So which catergory they are going to push former Australian Kohana and former Ranils's team mate GL Peries in case if they were made scapegoats?

The writer "anonymous" above, makes a lot of sense to me. He needs commendation for driving in the nail.

I recommend that DJ reads it.

It was DJ who proposed the idea that Ban Ki Moon's actions did not reflect the thinking of the UN. Even at that time it seemed a pretty funny theory to me; a sort of attempt to appease than to state the unpalatable truth as he saw it.

Such reasoning absolves someone acting stupidly in an official capacity of the all important need for "accountability" for his actions while holding office.

Therefore if WW's actions did not reflect the thinking of the government then MR's king coconut offer or the visits of many others showing solidarity with WW does not reflect the thinking of the government.

Pretty fine story I might add, because then, nobody is accountable for a number of things that happen on this planet. That includes George Bush and Blair claiming that neither USA nor the UK governments can be held responsible for the decisions made by them concerning their countries'involvement in IRAQ.

C'mon, let common sense (with its universal appeal), prevail.

Now there are e mails going round the world showing WW asleep with a packet of Maliban Lemon Puff biscuits next to him.

His and the antics of the president have made the Sinhalese the laughing stocks of the world and they deserve it.

The Sinhalese and the government of the day think that the sun eternally shines on their backs, the entire planet has to dance to their tunes.

Now a doctor in the Army hospital has stated that Wilma the faster had consumed food during the fast, even though he looks a strong and sturdy person he just could not handle two and a half days of so called fasting.

For this pathetic situation of Sri Lanka, Mr.G.L Peiris
and Mr.Kohona to be blamed for their negligence and inefficiency. This is a matter for them to handle diplomatically and advice the President and the Government rather than they them self behaving like jokers, puppets and Dancing to the local politicians tunes.Placing our county in this disgraced situation.
If Mr Luxman Kathirgamer were there this wouldn't have happened,he was relay smart and he had the BALLS.....to talk to the westerners...He was a TAMIL...
