Is there a shortage of labour force in sl?

20,000 Indian workers for house-building in the North and 30,000 Chinese ex-convicts in the Hambantota Port and other enterprises there. This 50,000 package of jobs would have gone out to light many home-fires in the country. Yes! the argument will be "skilled workers which Sri Lanka does not have" But that can be overcome with a few months of On-the-site training.

There is a very high skill worker shortage in sri lanka. Information available if somebody need. The relevant authorities has repetedly ignored this matter. May be wrong people at the decision making positions. The government must inquire this sad situation. How ever you can't train so quickly to meet the demand.

At this moment it must be relax the barriers for foreign workers to work in Sri Lanka. Not only construction sector but other areas also. Then only the production can increase. We have to get experience from other (developed) countries.

We must appreciate Indian workers contribution. Same time we should not intrepret this with seperation or any other political agendas.

If there is no crime in the South where Sinhala people live why does the state maintain police stations and courts and spend enormous amount on maintaining law and order? I suppose for the fun of it, perhaps to deal with the Tamil criminals? If that is the case Tamil criminals must be doing a very good job as most of the prisons are filled with Sinhala criminals.

I am not sure you have ever had the opportunity to travel outside Sri Lanka. This question arose because I detect little islander’s attitude in you and you amply demonstrate typical bunker mentality. Criminal behaviour is not typical of any one race but common to all human kind. Western prisons are not occupied exclusively by Tamils or Sinhalese but by other people too. I suppose you haven’t traveled much therefore it is difficult for you to understand how people live outside your little village leave alone outside Sri Lanka. Once in a while you must leave your parallel universe and visit the real world. I assure you we will help you in that process.

Rao faces some hard questions in Jaffna

India on Wednesday rejected reports that it was bringing its own nationals to Sri Lanka to carry out reconstruction work in the war-ravaged northern districts.

Foreign secretary Nirupama Rao, on a three-day visit to the Island nation, categorically denied that there was any move to bring in Indian labour for reconstruction work here. Construction of houses and other reconstruction work that India was helping Sri Lanka with was being done with local help, Rao reiterated.

A report in the local Sunday Times newspaper had claimed that India was transporting 20,000 workers to Sri Lanka to carry out reconstruction activities.

On Wednesday, Rao visited the eastern coastal town of Trincomalee and Mullaitivu, the final theatre of battle.

"We will not only build houses but also repair them. We want to participate in their recovery and progress," Rao said during her visit to the Mullaitivu administrative district.

On Tuesday, Rao visited Jaffna, the senior-most Indian bureaucrat to do so in decades, Kilinochchi and the camps for the internally displaced in Vavuniya.

In Jaffna, Rao had an interactive meet with members of the civil society where Tamil academics and intellectuals shared their complaints, apprehensions and expectations about India's role in Sri Lanka with her.

According to reports, Rao was told that the people of Jaffna expect India to play an active role in extracting a political settlement on the ethnic issue from Colombo. But at the same time, doubts were expressed whether India, which sided with the Mahinda Rajapaksa regime in its fight against the Tamil Tigers, would indeed help the Lankan Tamils to get that. Mere resettlement of war-displaced Tamils in small pockets of the northern districts will not achieve anything, she was told.

Rao, meanwhile, met President Rajapaksa on Wednesday evening. Rajapaksa told her that Indian investor interest in Sri Lanka was rapidly growing, and that several leading Indian entrepreneurs in industry and other sectors have expressed interest in setting up business in Sri Lanka.

A statement from Rajapaksa's office said during the 45-minute discussion, Rao expressed satisfaction at the progress in IDP resettlement. Rajapaksa said that IDPs should be involved in these projects, especially the housing projects, so that they would have a sense of ownership in them.

To all Sri Lankans, a humble request: Please do Not allow these 20,000 Indians into your country to come and steal your jobs. They will come to your country and create total mess and spy on your people. It was India that built the Tamil Militants Menace from 30 Militants in 1983 to 30,000 by 1987, all this to create trouble in your country. These 20,000 guys will come and create more trouble for you. If they do ever come then follow the "Australian Methodology" of keeping the Indians out. The "Australian way" is very effective.
